This is the painting I made right before the Bee Girl painting. It was kind of an experiment in perspective for me. Most all of the girls I paint are looking directly at the viewer…maybe with their eyes looking off to the side, but their face is always straight to the front. So I wanted to see if I could do a little different head tilt/body angle. And I was also just starting to experiment with painting noses and mouths in a bit more realistic way. (Still working on that.)
The canvas is 16×40" so I had plenty of room to work on details. I made this girl first and like the flower in her hair and how her eyes look…
On the redheaded girl I was happy with how the shading came out around her nose and under her chin. She looks a bit more skeptical than I meant for her to, but I still like her.
The skin-tone and face details were all done in oils and the rest of the painting is in acrylics.
I'm still healing from my back injury (about a month ago now) so it's awkward to paint on the really big canvases on which I'd been working. But any day now I'll be able to finish up the painting that came after Bee Girl and I'm really excited to show her! More experimentation in shading and, well…just something a little more free and different with the background. Soon. 🙂
