Bzzzzz…

Hive_9686 This is what 10,000+ bees look like before you let them out of the box.  I got to help my friends Meg & Zach set up their bee hive today!  And when I say "help", I mean that I took photos and tried to make no sudden movements as the little honey bees buzzed around, bumping into and landing on us.  It's really counter-intuitive to not move (run away!) when there are so many bees around.

We did pretty well though ~ no bee gear or anything!  Here I am with a bee perfectly positioned as a broach…

Meg_9691 We were all still dressed in work attire.  Here's her husband Zach right in the thick of things…
Zach_9697 In this photo he was opening the little box that holds the queen bee.  Zach did most of the up-close work with the bees.  Luckily he's a very calm person ~ even after being stung once.  I don't think being high-strung would be a good trait in a bee keeper.

So that was our evening activity.  Pretty cool.  :)  By the end of summer, we should have a good batch of honey.
