Bzzzzz…

This is what 10,000+ bees look like before you let them out of the box.  I got to help my friends Meg & Zach set up their bee hive today!  And when I say "help", I mean that I took photos and tried to make no sudden movements as the little honey bees buzzed around, bumping into and landing on us.  It's really counter-intuitive to not move (run away!) when there are so many bees around.

We did pretty well though ~ no bee gear or anything!  Here I am with a bee perfectly positioned as a broach…

We were all still dressed in work attire.  Here's her husband Zach right in the thick of things…
In this photo he was opening the little box that holds the queen bee.  Zach did most of the up-close work with the bees.  Luckily he's a very calm person ~ even after being stung once.  I don't think being high-strung would be a good trait in a bee keeper.

So that was our evening activity.  Pretty cool.  :)  By the end of summer, we should have a good batch of honey.
