I started off a couple days ago with posting one of my drawings, but I neglected to say that this is a whole new medium for me.  I always wanted to draw, but just never could come up with anything that was quite right.  For some reason – and I’ll credit my snazzy new woodless graphite pencils – in the last month I’ve been drawing almost every day!  My mom also picked up a pencil at about the same time and we’ve really been enjoying our little drawings.  (To see my Mom’s drawings, photos & other art, see her shop here.)

I thought you might like to see some of my before & afters.  I’ve been digitally photographing my sketches, then coloring them in Photoshop.  For my little scuba girl I made the “water” all with Photoshop filters & I really love how she turned out!

For the background on Emily (below with the sunshine hat) I painted a watercolor and digitally photographed that too.  I really like the serious, kind of annoyed look this girl has on her face – especially compared to the funny hat.

“Judging by the look on her face, this was the closest Emily would get to being a morning person.”

And last, this is Denise (named by my daughter).  I painted a background for her on canvas paper and I’m happy with how much texture came though from that onto the finished image.

I’ve got a few other characters in the works, but for now prints of Emily, Denise and a few other girls are available at my shop.  I’m on a mission to make some Buttons (pins? badges? Those little round metal buggers with the stick pin on the back!) so you may see some of these faces available in that way soon.
