Art Nest wrapped up on a Sunday morning and people had flights to catch right away, or were hitting the road to drive home. My flight didn't leave Utah until 9 p.m., which gave me a whole day to hang out at the airport. I could have rented a car, seen the sights…but honestly, the full day of down time was just what I needed. Turns out that it takes a lot of energy to be SO happy & creatively challenged for several days. :o)
Jane and I had a few hours to chat and do a bit of art 'show & tell' before her afternoon flight. {Thanks for the company, Jane!} Then I was on my own. I do that pretty well though – a fortunate byproduct of being an only child I think. Give me a book, my computer, some art supplies and I'm set.
So I staked out my corner and spread out. I sketched the girl above and played around with my watercolor crayons. {Don't worry…she has since acquired pupils!} I wrote in my journal. Headphones on, I listened to the CD Gloria gave us as her trade ~ some music that she enjoys creating art by. I had a surprisingly good airport mocha and despite the hit of caffeine, took a nifty little cat nap.
Although people don't generally describe 12 hours at the airport as a luxury, it was nice to have time to segue from the rarefied & wonderful retreat space back into the regular world. For holding onto the experience, slow transition was the way to go.
