Happy Valentine’s Day!
I found a couple Basswood Country Rounds today at Value Village and thought one of them would make a great background for a lovely Valentines-y girl in a pretty pink dress. (+$3 bucks each and still in the package…who could resist?) I started with covering the area I wanted to work with in gesso, of

Best. Day. Ever.
I'm not going to elaborate on that. You'll just have to take my word for it. ♥ But really…it was an unexpectedly great Valentine's Eve! What I can tell you is that I made a couple new paintings today. I'm still really enjoying these tiny watercolor papers. After finishing this little blue dress, I had an

‘nother teeny painting
I found a great little video tutorial online using this type of pastel/watercolor. This is my version of the girl created on that tutorial. Love the pink & yellow hair color combo! This type of learning works pretty well for me, but still feels weird: to copy a drawing directly the first time, in order

Watercolor Crayons
Caran d'Ache Neocolor II Artists' Crayons – love 'em! Watercolors have always seemed a bit intimidating to me. I have several kinds, but mostly what I do is enjoy looking at them on the shelf. I put them out on my work table sometimes, as if I might jump right in. But no. These artist

Laurie
Unintentionally, this girl came out reminding me of my friend Laurie – the awesome woman that has cut & colored my hair for years. It's probably the short red hair + just like the real woman she has a certain lively spark in her eye. These 5×5" canvases are really fun! What do you think of

Weather Day
After weeks of sub-zero temperatures, it warmed waaay up and is raining now. Crazy. The roads are so slick that all the schools and many businesses are closed – including my workplace. So it's an unexpected free day! I plan to make it Art Day. :o) Before I make my mocha and get back to

Inching Along
No "ta-da" finished projects to show today. But quite a few works in progress. Eventually they all get done. And all get hair. 🙂 I was really happy with how this yellow dress was going: But I thought it looked too simple. In my re-working it, I kinda messed it up and had to start

5×5″ canvas – 1 down, 9 to go…
Yay ~ cute! I knew this size would be fun to work on and I'm so happy with how this first one came out. I woke up at 3 a.m. the other night with a whole camping theme in my head. Luckily, there's usually a notebook handy. I was able to scribble down some ideas

-20 and holding + some new art supplies
I spoke too soon a couple days ago when I was whining about the -10 temps. It keeps getting colder! But with this weather comes some beautiful sights. Every branch of every tree, all the phone & electric lines, the light posts, mailboxes – pretty much every thing standing still – is covered with tiny
