Compared to the snowy landscape I have at home, the flowers in Maui are so lovely! I’m back now and spending time sorting through the 1000+ photos I took while on the island.
Love the girl on this florist’s sign.
Some of the flower photos were taken at the Maria Lanakila Historic Cemetery. There were headstones dating back to 1917. I enjoyed an hour or so early one morning wandering through, imagining the lives of the people buried there. At some point I was struck by the beautiful bird songs all around so I took this video just to capture the sound.
The cemetery is situated right up next to some houses and apartments. I found the juxtaposition of this grave to the colorful playground toys behind it to be interesting. A pretty good illustration that “life goes on” I suppose. I like to think that the children growing up here will have a healthy idea about life, death and the cycles of things. But really, I think it would be kinda creepy!
