From Australia to Rwanda (sort of)

Square_1329I've been away from painting & creating for quite awhile.  (Just part of my normal creative cycle.)  So this girl is just some playing I did after being inspired by an online class I'm taking…
SuppliesMeTaught by Jane Davenport out of Australia – it's easily the best e-course I've ever taken.  She's the real deal.  By that I mean that she's a very accomplished artist, but also a natural teacher.  She also clearly loves painting & drawing so it's fun to share in that joy.  She does a lot of art journaling, which – try as I might – is just not my thing.  I'm more of a literal (using my words) journalist.  I just don't enjoy words on my art.  But I decided to give it a try with this…
Whole_1329The words are a quote (or maybe a paraphrase) from Paul Rusesabagina who lived through the horror that was Rwanda in 1994.  It says, "Because you are alive, all things are possible." Which means to me that no matter how dire you feel your circumstance to be – there is hope.  A powerful message coming from somebody who experienced what he did.  But, despite the inspired words – I just didn't like the finished project.  So, using a little Photoshop cutting & pasting & squishing (like I did with my owl yesterday) I made the final image that you see at the top of this post.  I count Photoshop as one of the tools in my mixed media toolbox.  🙂
